6-Week Meditation Course
Hello! My name is Dawn Kim and I am a junior teacher at Luminous Ground Meditation Community in Toronto. When I attended my first meditation session, I was 26. I just moved back to Toronto and I started a new job. From the outside, my life was going well and there was no obvious flaw that I could find. But inside, I felt insecure and disconnected from the world and I believed that something was fundamentally wrong with me.
With the support of committed meditation practice, training with a teacher, and attending retreats, I started to have more clear understanding of what was going on in my experience – body, thoughts and feelings. Once I started to notice my moment to moment experience more clearly, it became accessible for me to be more present with kindness and bring more balance to my life. This practice has been benefiting me in all areas of my life including, relationships, career and health.
In January 2020, I would like to invite you to this 6-week course to learn and practice cultivating awareness in your day to day life with compassion so you can start making small changes to bring more balance to your life. The meditation methods you learn in this course will help you to recognize the turbulence in your mind and connect with your life a little more deeply. Other possible outcome of this course can be less reactive and more compassionate when you are in a difficult situation and decrease in mental and emotional stress.
Each class will be consisted of meditation practice, teachings, Q&A and exercises. Once the 6-week course is complete, there will be a day of meditation where you can practice more deeply on what you have learned with the guidance of the teacher.
Week 1 – Basic mindfulness practice: body scan and breathing meditation
Week 2 – Recognize your thoughts
Week 3 – Recognize your feelings
Week 4 – Accept your thoughts & feelings
Week 5 – Investigate your thoughts & feelings
Week 6 – Create space with your thoughts & feelings
Start Date: January 8 – February 12 (Wednesdays)
Time: 6:50pm – 8:45pm
Retreat Date: February 22, 10:00 am – 4:00 pm

Prerequisite: This course is open to all. Some meditation practice is helpful, but not necessary.
