Wed February 15th: The Full Awareness of Breathing Sutra
The Wednesday night class will be taught by Laurie, intermediate teacher at Luminous Ground.
This will be the second class on the Discourse on the Full Awareness of Breathing sutra, one of the most important teachings in the Thich Nhat Hanh tradition. Each month this year, one class will be devoted to this sutra.
This week we will explore the 3rd and 4th of the 16 practices:
- ‘Breathing in, I am aware of my whole body. Breathing out, I am aware of my whole body.’
- ‘Breathing in, I calm my whole body. Breathing out, I calm my whole body.’
With these practices, we use our breathing to get in touch with our body and allow it to grow calm. Our body is one of the four establishments of mindfulness, and learning to get in touch with and calm our body brings many benefits. We will explore several practices to do this, through guided meditation, partner practice and discussion.
The body is always there for us, always in the present moment. Come explore with us!
